Título
Single-position lateral interbody fusion in prone: Early experience case series
Objetivo
Investigate the outcomes after a one-year experience using the prone transpsoas technique
Metodologia
Inclusion criteria were patients who underwent at least one level lateral lumbar interbody fusion level in prone decubitus between 2020 and 2021. The outcomes of interest were divided into surgical and clinical outcomes. Clinical outcomes comprised the PROs questionnaires (ODI, VAS back, and EQ-5D), and complications. Surgical outcomes comprised, surgery duration (min), transpsoas time (min), estimated blood loss (ml), UCI, and hospitalization length (days). Kruskal-Wallis or one-way ANOVA was used to compare groups variance and, T-test or Wilcox test, with Benjamini-Hochberg p adjuments, were used to compare the between two groups. p values inferior to a p < 0.05 were deemed significant.
Resultados
Thirty-two cases were included in the study, with thirty patients receiving thirty-one patients receiving one PTP surgery and one receiving two surgeries. The most frequent included pathology was
The mean operative time was 213 min, with a mean transpsoas time of 31.1 min (±19.7) and blood loss of 262 ml. The median total hospitalization time was two days, while the median UCI time was zero days. Moreover, two intraoperative and one postoperative PTP-related complication occurred.
All clinical outcomes, but back pain, presented a significant reduction in 1-3 months and 6-12 months follow-ups, compared to baseline.
Conclusões
The authors' consecutive case experience shows PTP as a safe, feasible, and reproducible technique capable of treating a wide range of pathologies, from simple to complex case scenarios.
