EVALUATION OF PROTECTIVE ROLE OF (E)-1-(2-HYDROXYPHENYL)-3-(4-METHOXYPHENYL)PROP-2-EN-1-ONE CHALCONE IN ISCHEMIC REPERFUSION INDUCED ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY IN-VITRO MODEL

Resumo

Ischemia reperfusion (I/R) is the main cause of acute kidney injury, contributing to higher rate of mortality and morbidity around the globe. Renal I/R injury involves complex pathophysiology. However, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are supposed as the common pathological alteration during I/R injury. Therefore, targeting generation of ROS, protecting mitochondria and improving organ function are the main interventions to manage I/R induced AKI. Chalcones belonging to flavonoid family of phenolic compounds are abundantly found in numerous fruits, dietary spices, teas and soya-based foods. Chalcones derivatives are studied widely due to their simple structure and numerous biological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anticancer, antidiabetic, psychoactive and neuroprotective actions. Therefore, considering strong antioxidant action along with other pharmacological roles of chalcone derivatives, (E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one chalcone molecule was analyzed for their nephroprotective role in I/R induced AKI.
